3 Day Blinds Moves From Retail Showrooms Directly to In-Home, Person-to-Person Sales

July 16, 2009

Irvine, California — 3 Day Blinds, a leading retail manufacturer of custom blinds, shades and shutters in the United States, has reinvented their core marketing and sales strategy. Within the last year, they have doubled their number of full-time Design Consultants to 225. These window coverings experts provide in-home design advice to consumers, free of charge.

“Our expanded direct selling business strategy was driven by our clients’ desire for professional advice, security in measuring correctly and the assurance of perfect installation on their projects,” says Michael Bush, President and CEO of 3 Day Blinds. “With an in-home consultation, our clients can easily compare our fashion-forward, high quality window treatments to the paint on their walls and the carpet on their floors. And, our experienced Design Consultants will provide these personal consultations for free!”

Great service and easy appointment setting (even the same day) sets 3 Day Blinds apart, as window covering projects often move from appointment to installation in just three days. Their management team and culture are focused on client satisfaction, on serving customers so they gladly tell others, “You’ll Love The Treatment!”

3 Day Blinds recently shifted their focus from retail locations, to serving customers in their homes or places of business.

“With over 200 Design Consultants, our goal is to provide expert advice to each homeowner. We want to make sure our customers enjoy all the benefits a 30-year company can offer, says Phil Mettra, Vice President of Marketing. “We’re solid, in both manufacturing and experience, so 3 Day Blinds is ideally situated to grow faster in the future because of wise choices made today.”

Their strategic business plan was followed by a physical move that resituated their main offices to a thriving and popular corporate complex. “The Irvine Spectrum is a commercial haven for leading edge companies,” says Tikie Holewski, SVP of Human Resources.

But, a new marketing strategy and new company offices are just the tip of the iceberg, when it comes to 3 Day Blinds plans for future success.

Moving from over 180 retail showrooms to over 200 “in home” Design Consultants, 3 Day Blinds now has ten independent showrooms, with another 10 mini-showrooms in The Great Indoors (TGI owned by Sears). In addition to saving customers time and money with person-to-person consultations, the 3 Day Service Call Center has been upgraded with a faster telephone system, more Service Operators and 7-day-a-week access, to increase quality service and provide faster response times.

“We’ve also just completed a merchandise update,” says Karin Miller, Vice President of Merchandising and Product Development. “We introduced an innovative, brand-new product called the Flexcell Honeycomb Blind which combines the light control of horizontal blinds with the insulation of honeycomb shades. In addition, we have done a complete makeover of our top-of-the line Gallery Wood Blind and Vertical Sheer collections, added several exciting new fabrics and trims to our assortment, and upgraded our cornice offering.”

With over 30 years of experience, 3 Day Blinds stands as a vanguard in the field of window treatments. In addition to high quality blinds that can be custom-produced in a company-owned factory, and shipped to customers in 3 days, their design experts are working with strategic business partners, like real estate agents, painters, and interior designers, to offer special referral programs to drive appointments and sales. “We’re exceptionally proud of the innovative spirit behind our new marketing plan,” says Michael Bush, Chief Executive Officer. “With our business model redefined, we’re poised for future growth. The struggling economy has been an opportunity for change and increased momentum. We welcome the challenge, and look forward to moving ahead in the coming months.”

Choosing Window Treatments: 7 Secrets from an Industry Insider
Expert Karin Miller Shares Information with Homeowners

June 8, 2009

Anaheim, California After over 20 years of working with window treatments, Karin Miller, Vice President of Merchandising and Product Development for 3 Day Blinds, is an expert on how to frame windows with the newest fashions, affordably. “There’s are so much a consumer needs to know before making a decision,” Miller says. “Beauty on a budget can go hand in hand with lasting quality, if you know where to shop and what to buy.”

1. Custom made or off the shelf? “In today’s economy, consumers want the best bang for their buck. But price tags don’t always tell the whole story. Custom window treatments are made to your exact specifications, from a virtually unlimited array of material choices,” Miller explains. “Because they fit your windows perfectly, they are both beautiful and functional, unlike the off-the-shelf sold by discount retailers products and can’t guarantee a custom fit.”

2. Where to buy? From home improvement centers to department stores, websites to catalogs, there are many sources offering window treatments. But when a homeowner wants to combine quality and value, working with knowledgeable expert is key. “I suggest bringing a product expert that specializes in window treatments into your home. There is tremendous peace-of-mind in knowing you’re working with a someone with solid training and real world experience,” Miller says. “Also, working with an expert who represents a reputable manufacturer that controls the production and carries a wide assortment of products is key.”

3. How do I choose? Wondering which treatments to choose? Shutters, Honeycomb Shades and Blinds, Sheer Shadings, Wood Blinds, Faux Wood Blinds, Woven Wood Shades, Vertical Blinds, Roller Shades, Roman Shades, and Mini Blinds are just a few of the popular window treatments in demand, today. “Each treatment style adds a special look and feel to a room,” Miller continues. “That’s why my favorite tip for homeowners is to view samples of window treatments in the light of their own home. Room lighting and light from outdoors will transform colors, fabrics and textures in unexpected ways. So always evaluate window treatments in your home, before you buy! “

4. Good and fast! All consumers want quality, but most also need their window treatments yesterday. So, how can consumers get the lush fabrics and designer colors they want in a reasonable time frame? “The key is to buy from a supplier that controls manufacturing,” Miller continues. “If they put your product into production the day after the order is placed and have a reputation for quick, professional installation, you’ve got it made!”

5. Can I get both light control and good insulation? “If your room requires both light control and good insulation, there is a brand new option for your windows. With their cellular construction, Flexcell Honeycomb Blinds combine the superior, energy-saving insulation of a Honeycomb Shade,” says Miller. “But in addition, the cells are designed to collapse to form vanes that provide the light control of a horizontal blind. When the blind is raised, you enjoy an unobstructed view. Flexcell Honeycomb Blinds are fashionable and will complement any décor.”

6. What about privacy? Privacy is an important factor for almost everyone. “All window treatments have versions that provide some privacy,” Miller states. “Discuss your privacy needs with a window treatments expert and ask about shades that offer a top down bottom up option, that maintain privacy below while allowing the light to shine in above, choose a Light-less® feature on a horizontal blind or add a lining behind shades made from your favorite fabric or material.”

7. My room with a view! If you love your view, window treatments should frame nature’s wonders or fabulous cityscapes without detracting from the vista. “If maintaining your view when your window treatment is open is an important consideration, here’s a tip,” Miller states. “Choose a window treatment that stacks tightly when opened, or specify an outside mount that is large enough for the product to stack above or to the side of your window. Maximizing your connection with the outdoor environment almost always can be achieved.”

3 Day Blinds Introduces New Shutters, Blinds and Sheer Verticals

March 16, 2009

3 Day Blinds, an Anaheim, CA-based retailer and manufacturer of custom window treatments has announced the introduction of several new products.

Transitions Shutters and ViewPointe Faux Wood Blinds offer a new, lower-priced option for 3 Day Blinds’ clients. Both products are made from high-grade polymer materials that never crack, warp or peel, and will provide years of lasting beauty.

“We are already the market leader in the top-of-the-line Shutter and the Faux Wood categories,” says Karin Miller, Vice President of Merchandising. “With these new introductions, our enhanced assortment will now include products of top quality, with everyday prices 15% below our current offering.”

“Our new Shutters and Blinds are receiving a fabulous response from our Design Consultants, Showroom Managers and clients who have previewed them,” says Mark Lovas, Vice President of Sales. “It is exciting to offer our customers products with high-quality finishes that are indistinguishable from painted wood, with many patented features, and that still carry our Limited Lifetime Warranty.”

Sheer Magic Vertical Blinds have been updated with the addition of a myriad of exclusive fabric choices, many of which are imported from Europe. New selections include luxurious textures and updated colors, including a lush palette of mid-tones and rich, darker colors.

“Sheer Magic provides all of the light control of a vertical blind, with the added layer of sheer fabric to add radiancy and softness,” according to Ms. Miller. “We have seen a surge of interest in this category, and Sheer Magic offers a much more affordable alternative to other soft vertical solutions.”

Behind the soft layer of fabric are durable 3 ½ inch vinyl vanes, which can be rotated 360 degrees. When the vanes are rotated open, the light will gently filter through the fabrics, which provide varying degrees of translucency. When the vanes are closed, the blind provides complete privacy. For an unobstructed view, the vanes and fabric stack neatly to the side when the blind is opened.

“We are excited to have new Sheer Magic Vertical Blind options to offer our clients,” says Dionne Maedke, District Sales Manager in the Chicago area. “These products offer great solutions in so many situations, but particularly for sliding glass doors and picture windows.”

Clients can see the full range of 3 Day Blinds’ products by scheduling an in-home Design Consultation, where a window coverings professional will help with product selection, handle the measuring, provide a quote, and schedule installation, all free of charge. “Our team of 250 Design Consultants is on-call, and often available for same-day appointments,” says Phil Mettra, Vice President of Marketing, “and the service they provide can’t be matched by anyone in the industry.”

Products can also be purchased in one of 3 Day Blinds’ Showrooms, or on their Website. In addition to Shutters, Faux Wood Blinds and Sheer Magic Vertical Blinds, 3 Day Blinds also offers Honeycomb Shades, Wood Blinds, Woven Wood Shades, Vertical Blinds, Roller Shades, Roman Shades, and Aliminium Mini Blinds, most of which are manufactured in our own factory. Products go into production the day after the order is placed, and can often be in the clients’ windows within a week. 3 Day Blinds also provides a full range of Hunter Douglas window treatments.

“We are unique in the markets we serve in that we are both the retailer and fabricator, and we provide a complete service, including installation” according to Michael Bush, President and CEO. “This allows us to control the entire process to ensure an outstanding experience for our clients.”

3 Day Blinds was founded in 1978, and is the leading retailer and manufacturer of custom window treatments. Our products are sold by in-home Design Consultants, online, and in 20 retail showrooms.
