Show Your Passion with Purple

Show Your Passion with Purple

Perhaps more than any other color in the rainbow, Purple embodies passion. However, it also stands for much more. Representing a range of colors between Blue and Red, Purple is not only enjoying an upsurge as a trending fashion and design color, it also benefits from a distinguished history.  According to surveys in Europe and the U.S., Purple is the color most often associated with royalty, magic, mystery and piety. And when combined with pink, it is associated with eroticism and seduction. Not a bad combination when you want to decorate a room and stir the pot just a bit. Within the ranks of royalty, Purple was the color worn by Roman magistrates, including Julius Caesar, and it became the imperial color worn by the rulers of the Byzantine Empire and the Holy Roman Empire, and later by Roman Catholic bishops. From the Purple Heart that honors our wounded soldiers, to the precious Amethyst gemstone, to the classic rock music of the American band Deep Purple, it’s no wonder this color and the Purple mountains that go along with it is more popular than ever. As a decorative color, its boldness and vibrancy may be second to none. Adorning a room with Purple curtains or shades reflects ones unabashed confidence, sending an instant message to your friends and guests that you are one who knows how to have a great time. So go ahead, be a little crazy and let yourself go, just this once. There’s an entire world of passionate Purple waiting for you!

Today’s “It” Color for Tomorrow’s Top Designs

No, you’re not dreaming. Radiant Orchid was the “it” color for 2014. As if you really needed to know that before embarking on your journey of discovery. Representing a plethora of various hues, Purple can be found in many forms, and known by many names. Royal Purple, which first originated in 1661, is now an official Crayola Crayon color. Mauveine, named after the Mauve colored Mallow flower, represents another shade of Purple. In addition to Mauveine or Mauve, there’s Thistle, Orchid, Phlox, and Mulberry Purples, to name just a few. In short, no matter what you call it, as long as your shade falls between Red and Violet, you have your Purple and can be proud of it. You can also be proud of what colors pair with those Purple blackout curtains. When accented with Yellow for example, a room becomes brighter. Mix in some subtle tones of grey, taupe, or beige and you have understated elegance worthy of entertaining the Queen herself. There’s more than enough Purple to go around, so try mixing in a few of your favorite shades along with a complementary color or two. To save both time and money, you may find you have a head start with a soft Yellow or Grey. Maybe it’s a chair, a set of pillows, or perhaps a few candles. Either way, you’ll be amazed at how easy it is to make Purple come to life in your home’s interior.

From Walls to Wallflowers

From dark Purple curtains and drapes to a cashmere throw bathed in Mardi Gras Purple, there’s a host of Purple-worthy designer options available to consider. If you’re particularly daring, begin with painted walls, and check out Purple Gumball at your local paint store. Not quite the look? Then dial up their Cloudy Plumb. Most paint stores offer suggested trim colors that pair well with any color. Once you’ve landed your wall color, move on to rich textured fabrics for a loveseat or sofa. Then add in pillows, light fixtures, wall art, and of course flower arrangements. Just about any item in your room is a worthy candidate for this passion color. Try to avoid cute or trendy accessories to keep the room looking sophisticated. Whether it’s just Purple or Purple and grey curtains, your window coverings from 3 Day Blinds help to set the tone and tie it all together. To finish, consider the look that 6” baseboards offer, especially when painted in a high gloss white. There, you’ve done it! Now you can start planning that party!
